YATES COUNTY--"We walk as one."
That's the Hope Walk motto and this Saturday is the day.
It's a pretty simple idea. A grassroots group of community members passionate about cancer support services have come together to raise money and awareness for people in the community.
Here's the best part. All the money raised stays in Yates County and then assists county residents dealing with cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
This Saturday, Aug. 26 at Stork Fields in Penn Yan from noon to midnight, people will walk with passion. Volunteers have lined up donors in advance of their Saturday walk.
In fact, board member Ron Miller said last week, "We already have 100 walkers signed up for the walk and we expect to get a total of 150. That's about the same number we had last year, too. We have some $26,000 committed already and we are shooting for a goal of $40,000 this year."
Registration for the walk starts at 10 a.m. at the field and then the opening ceremony begins at noon Saturday. The day continues with a fair, a survivors ceremony and dinner, live music, team pictures and a Hope Lighting ceremony in the evening with the closing at midnight. The complete schedule includes:
