Indians beat Candor in final quarter

ODESSA—It took the Odessa-Montour varsity boys basketball team until the fourth quarter to defeat Candor, Friday, Dec. 11.
Odessa-Montour won 53-48.  The most action happened in the last quarter for O-M as the team jumped from 34 points in the third quarter to 53 at the end.  The Indians had been behind in the first three quarters.
O-M's Phil Smith scored the first basket in the fourth quarter, just five seconds in.  Odessa took the lead after a three pointer by Dan Stephens, which made the score 40-38.  It was quickly followed by another three-pointer by Matt Kurtz.  After that, Stephens managed to steal the ball from Candor and score.  He scored again after that and netted two free throw shots.  Two free throw shots by Derick Harrington ended the game.
Stephens lead the game with 15 points, nine in the final quarter.  Trevor Carey followed with 14 and Harrington had 10.
Coach Brad Clark described the game as "up and down."  He said the players made mistakes, but later made several key shots.  He added that gave them the confidence to keep going.
The boys varsity basketball team plays next against Newfield, Dec. 15, in a home game.
