State awards $498K to museum group KEUKA PARK—The New York State Environmental Protection Fund awarded a $498,000 grant to the Finger Lakes Museum through Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s 2012 Regional Economic Development Council Initiative. Museum Executive Director Don Naetzker said the funds will be used to pay for an environmental assessment as well as planning and design work for the first phase of the museum’s exhibit-based campus in Keuka Lake State Park. Naetzker said, “Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Architects, known for their work with the National Park Service, is leading a team of design experts, educators and environmental consultants to create exhibits that will examine freshwater habitats, fisheries, bald eagle and river otter restoration, and Finger Lakes winemaking.” Read More ... Jerusalem board adopts scenic view protection JERUSALEM—The Jerusalem town board adopted the proposed overlay district for the Route 54A corridor during their meeting Wednesday, Jan. 16. The law passed in a three to two vote, with Supervisor Daryl Jones and Councilman Michael Folts voting against it. Consultant Matt Ingalls gave a presentation outlining the final draft of the new overlay district, which starts just north of West Lake Road and ends at Sugar Creek just east of Branchport. Jerusalem presents sixth draft for Route 54A plan JERUSALEM—Thirteen residents turned out for the third and final public feedback session to hear details on Jerusalem’s proposed Route 54A Corridor Plan Saturday, Sept. 8. Residents heard a brief presentation from Consultant Matt Ingalls as he went over the different regulations the plan would implement. Museum breaks ground in Branchport BRANCHPORT—The Finger Lakes Museum broke ground for the construction of the Discovery Campus in Branchport at a ceremony, Thursday, Aug. 16. The project was identified by the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council as a priority project in 2011 and was awarded $2.3 million to support the renovation of the former Branchport Elementary School into a historical center highlighting the Finger Lakes region.
