Jones reappoints Stewart as deputy supervisor

BRANCHPORT—Raymond Stewart is no longer on the Jerusalem town board, but Supervisor Daryl Jones decided to reappoint him deputy supervisor for another year. Jones made the decision after the board approved him the right to appoint the position during the town’s organizational meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Stewart, who served on the town board for 10 years, decided not to seek reelection for 2012. While Stewart will no longer have voting rights on town matters, the supervisor still sees him as an important presence. “He has been my deputy for the eight years I have been supervisor,” Jones explained.  “We work very closely and he is an asset. He still wants to be involved in town business.”
Jones was also approved the right to appoint the town budget officer, Larry Muscarella, and bookkeeper, Jennifer McKay.
    In other business:
    • Michael Folts, Patrick Killen, and McKay were appointed to the Sunshine Fund committee. The group will decide how to allocate the $720 contributed to the fund by town board members.
    • Max Parson was appointed to replace Folts on the highway committee.
    • Community Bank N.A., M &T Investment Group, Five Star Bank, and Lyons National Bank were designated as official depositories for the town. The supervisor and deputy supervisor will be authorized to sign checks.
    • The town board approved to hold regular meetings on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. The next meeting will be on Jan. 18.
