July rain was more than triple last year

PENN YAN--If you thought we had a lot of rain during the month of July, you are right.
Rainfall for Penn Yan during the first 28 days of the month totaled 5.52 inches. Last year the number was 1.76 inches for the same time period. That is 313 percent more than 2016. The average for the first 28 days of July is 3.51 inches.
Schuyler County also saw a significant gain in rainfall. This year Schuyler received 7.9 inches during this time period and last year the number was only 2.3 inches. The county average total in July is 3.48 inches.
The rain totals come from the Northeast Regional Climate Center at Cornell University. Climatologist Jessica Spaccio said July, 2017 was one of the wettest Julys in history.
Some areas in the Southern Tier have now received as much rain through the month of July as they did for the entire year of 2016.
