Keuka Maid is now gone from the lake

URBANA—The owner of the Keuka Maid told the Urbana town board, Wednesday, Jan. 30, that he would like to bring the boat back to Keuka Lake after it is rebuilt.
On the day of the meeting, the boat was almost completely dismantled and on shore. Jeremy Fields, owner of Fields Construction and Excavating Inc., said the boat would be completely removed by the next day. Fields explained he will do repairs to the grounds around the dock and replace the fence when he is finished.
When asked about the future of the boat, he replied he wants to rebuild and refurbish it. Fields said, “whether it ends up in Canandaigua Lake or here is to be determined.” He explained he would like to work with the town on coming to an agreement to lease the dock. He added he would be willing to make repairs to the dock as part of a contract.
Fields purchased the Keuka Maid for $26,000 at auction in October of last year. He bid on the boat as a whole, including all equipment onboard. The Keuka Maid was previously owned by Robert Pfuntner.
Fields said in repairing the boat he wants to make it two stories high, instead of the previous three stories. He added he plans to make it a little wider and get rid of one pontoon. He said he intends to make it look like a river boat. The vessel would also have a boarding ramp from the front as opposed to the side. The board agreed to meet with Fields again at the March 19 town meeting to review his ideas.
During discussion, the board was asked if they would allow use of the dock by other businesses. Webster said the board is considering that. He added that is why the board wants a couple months of “breathing room” before making a decision.
Board member John Jensen said the committee doesn’t want to limit the dock to one entity. It was also indicated that the Hammondsport Fire Department might still be interested in using the dock.
