Lady Senecas fall to Newark Valley

WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen girls varsity soccer team lost to Newark Valley, 7-1, Wednesday, Sept. 29.
Coach Travis Durfee said he was impressed with the Senecas’ Cassie Wait, Angela Keough, and Rachel St. Julien, “who played excellent games in the midfield. Wait had her best game of the season stepping to the ball, winning 50-50 balls and distributing to her teammates. Kayla Bryan had a big game in goal making ten saves and allowing only two goals.”
Keough also scored the team’s only goal.  He said the girls were very aggressive to the ball and possessed it well.  However, Durfee added there were some mistakes, including two goals made by Watkins in favor of the other team and a few blown marks.
“And Newark Valley capitalized,” he said. “They are a skilled team and take advantage of any mistakes you make.”
Watkins made five shots on Newark’s goal.  The Senecas also had two corner kicks.  With this loss, the team is now 2-9.
