Lakers are sectional tennis champions

HAMMONDSPORT—The Hammondsport varsity tennis team ended the season as Class D sectional champions, by beating Fillmore, Thursday, May 27.
Coach Adam French said this is the first time ever for Hammondsport to win it.  He added that since 2000, the title has stayed between Fillmore, Alfred-Almond, and Naples.  French explained that up until the loss to the Lakers, Fillmore was also undefeated this season.
Hammondsport won all three singles matches.  Chris Haluszczak defeated Tyler Johnson, 6-0, 7-5.  French said in the second set Haluszczak faced seven match points before winning it, and the match.
Peter Woods beat Sam Craig, 6-3, 6-1.  Josh Malone took down Noah McNeill 6-2, 6-4.
Fillmore won the two doubles matches.  Andy Zalar and Chase Rangel defeated Connor Davis and Connor Amsden, 6-2, 6-0.  Bjorn Webb and Jordan Crouch beat Matt Peterson and Nick Hopkins, 6-1, 6-1.
