HAMMONDSPORT—The Hammondsport boys varsity soccer team beat Avoca, 2-1, Friday, Sept. 3. Coach Jody Ordway said the Lakers dominated in the first half, scoring their two goals, thanks to the wind. He explained that the wind was strong enough it made it hard for Avoca to drive the ball towards Hammondsport’s goal. Ordway added that in the second half, when the teams switched sides, Avoca dominated the field. The Tigers had 16 attempted shots, to the Lakers’ seven. Jordan Schuck scored Hammondsport’s first goal, unassisted. Nate Adams scored the second goal, assisted by Ryan Eckel and Peter Woods. Ordway added that goalie Josh Malone did an “outstanding job.” “The teams were pretty evenly matched,” said Ordway. The boys soccer team plays next against Canisteo Greenwood, Sept. 7.
