Lakers claim sectional volleyball title

AVOCA—The Hammondsport varsity volleyball team won the Section V Class D championship, Saturday, Nov. 3, by defeating Prattsburgh, 25-19, 25-19, 25-12.
"This was a special win for our seniors and for me," said Coach Julie Amsden. "This was the first group of girls I coached when I first started coaching at Hammondsport Central School eight years ago. They were in fourth grade and for eight years we have been talking about bringing home a sectional title."
Lori Gordon had 14 kills, while Brooke Clark had nine kills. Aly Binnert had five aces and six digs. Alissa Walruth added 11 digs. Lauren Binnert contributed 36 assists and Carly Presley had six kills and one block. Binnert was named most valuable player. Walruth, Binnert, and Gordon were also named to the all tournament team.
"My girls work hard all year around playing club volleyball, summer league, and going to camps. These girls really deserve this title and I'm extremely happy and proud of them all," said Amsden.
