HAMMONDSPORT—The Hammondsport varsity baseball team beat Addison, 12-8, in a home game, Friday, April 9.
Addison had the lead until the fourth inning when Hammondsport scored seven runs and took the lead. JustynSchuck was the pitcher and faced 36 batters. Coach Dan Conley said he struck out 13, walked three, and allowed six earned runs. Ryan Eckel was 3-for-3 with a walk. Tristen Peck was 2-for-3. Schuck also had three RBIs and a triple. Eckel had a double, two RBIs, and a triple. Josh Snyder also had two RBIs.
The Hammondsprot softball team also faced Addison Friday, but lost 16-4. The Lakers only scored in the second inning.
“Addison hit the ball very well and Hammondsport made quite a few errors on the field, which was the difference in the game,” said Coach Kelley Tranter.
The Hammondsport boys tennis team had to forfeit the third singles match and suffered their first loss on the season against a senior laden Naples team 2-3, Wednesday, April 14.
Coach Adam French said the highlight match was at first doubles were Josh Malone and Peter Woods teamed up to defeat one of the better doubles teams in Section V, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. The Laker duo came from behind in the first set to tie, before falling 4-6, and then rallied from behind in each of the next two victorious sets.
At first singles Chris Haluszczak continued his record this season with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Sam Eaton who was the #2 seed from Finger Lakes West league at last year's sectionals.
Connor Davis moved into the second singles position due to the forfeit and lost 1-6, 2-6.
The second doubles team of Matt Peterson and Connor Amsden faced Dakota Matthews and Leif Love and lost 1-6, 1-6.
"It was a tough defeat but great experience for the young Laker duo," said French.
