Lakers take league crown

HAMMONDSPORT—The Hammondsport boys varsity tennis team took the Steuben County league crown by defeating Wellsville, Monday, May, 24.
The Lakers won all the matches, both single and double, to score 5-0. Coach Adam French said this is the first time in 10 years to happen.
Chris Haluszczak defeated Jimmy Gilfert, 6-4, 7-5. French said Haluszczak was down 5-1 in the second set, but came back to win.
Peter Woods beat Jacob Robarts, 6-3, 6-3. French said Woods has previously only lost one singles match, and it was to Robarts.
Josh Malone took the final singles match against Ryan Padden, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, Connor Davis and Connor Amsden beat Matt Brown and Cory Brion, 6-4, 6-3. Matt Peterson and Nick Hopkins defeated Dillon Smith and Justin Boussa, 6-4, 6-4.
French said the tennis team ended the regular season 16-2, with an 11-1 in league record.
