Legislators name deputy fire coordinators

PENN YAN—At the county meeting Monday, Dec. 13, Yates County legislators appointed four individuals as Deputy Fire Coordinators. Jared Webster, Charlie Leach, Lee Hibbard and Craig Prior will serve in a volunteer capacity.
Part-time deputy fire coordinator positions were created. One part time deputy fire coordinator position at an hourly rate of $31 and two temporary part-time deputy fire coordinators at an hourly rate of $25 were created. Legislator Donna Alexander said the positions are not permanent. They will be filling-in until the Director of Emergency Management is hired.
Also created was the position of Deputy Director of Emergency Management in the Emergency Management office. The position of Senior Account Clerk typist position was abolished.
In other business: Legislators  passed a resolution recognizing the Department of Criminal Justice Reaccreditation to the Yates County Sheriff’s office. The designation has been effect since 2005 and an outside assessment resulted in extension of the existing accreditation for five years.
• Legislators acknowledged the Sheriff’s online accident report option. Citizens will be able to access accident reports at  yatescountysheriff.org. The reports will be available 24 hours a day. The fee is $5 and can be paid by credit card.
• Legislators established accounts for a Federal Grant for the Yates County Airport in the amount $456,300.
• Legislators adopted the equalization and apportionment table for county towns. The percent of the levy ranges from 3.38 percent in the town of Potter to 31.367 in the town of Jerusalem.
• Mortgage tax apportionment was approved. Total tax collected was $234,693.88.
• Town and county tax rates were adopted.
Finance committee chairman Tim Dennis commended Yates County Treasurer Bonnie Percy for bringing the possibility of refinancing bonds the attention of legislators. The bonds were sold Dec. 2. Dennis said that over 10 years the county will save $671,239.
• The Chairman of the Legislature, Taylor Fitch, was authorized to sign an agreement with Iverson Construction Corp. for cosmetic repairs and painting the cupola on the old Yates County Courthouse. The amount of the project is $33,500.
• Crane-Hogan Structural Systems, Inc. of Spencerport was awarded the contract for replacement of the Fox’s Mill bridge. The bid amount was $619,991.96. The project is part of the Federal Aid bridge replacement project.
• Fitch appointed Daniel Brezinksy to the Youth Board and Patrick Flynn to Soil and Water Conservation District board.
The year-end meeting of the Yates County  Legislature will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29. the next regular meeting of the Yates County Legislature will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10. Both meetings will be in legislative chambers in the Yates County office building on Liberty Street in Penn Yan.
