PENN YAN—The 2010-11 budget for the Penn Yan Public Library will be voted on by residents of the Penn Yan Central School District on April 13.
The $592,043 budget contains an increase of 1.4 percent over the current budget and a tax increase of 2.1 percent. A large increase in retirement contributions that is beyond the library’s control is part of the increase. The retirement contribution is $35,000.
The largest expense area is human resources which covers salaries and benefits including health insurance. Although salaries show an increase of 2.5 percent, the total amount is actually lower. Also on the ballot is the election of two trustees for five year terms. Incumbents Doug Irwin and Paula Nelson are running for reelection for the two available spots on the ballot.
Penn Yan Public Library was founded in 1895 and serves the approximately 15,000 residents of the Penn Yan Central School District. Voting on the 2010-11 budget will be on April 13 from 9 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the Hicks Kimball Room in the library on Main Street in Penn Yan.
