Local businesses tie-in with racing events

WATKINS GLEN—The NASCAR race at Watkins Glen International is the biggest event the track hosts each year and brings in thousands of people to the area.
This translates into more customers shopping at local stores during the weekend. To get their attention, some businesses hold promotional tie-ins with the NASCAR event, sometimes bringing in drivers or their cars while they are in Watkins for the NASCAR race.
Area Walmart stores will be featuring cars and other promotions. The closest, in Watkins Glen, will host events this Friday and Saturday, both from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store will have stock racing car displays and racing simulator machines. The events are free to attend.
The Watkins Walmart will have the General Mills Cheerios Show Car, Kraft’s Oreo Ritz Nationwide Show Car, Pepsi Max/Amp Simulator, Coca Cola 5-Seat Racing Simulator, Hefty Show Car Simulator, Blue Bunny’s Champ Cone Sampling Trailer, MillerCoors Coors Light Show Car, and Miller Lite Show Car. Miss Coors Light, Rachel Rupert, will also be stopping by when she’s not busy at the track.
Tops Friendly Markets in Watkins Glen will also host a NASCAR event. Number 29 driver Kevin Harvick will be at the store Thursday, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. On Friday, there will be a tire changing event from 3 to 9 p.m. Driver Matt Kenseth, number 17, will be signing autographs that same day at Tops from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A course car will also be at the store on Saturday, from 5 to 7 p.m.
