Mayor: Montour Pharmacy will close Dec. 6

MONTOUR FALLS—The Montour Pharmacy will close Tuesday, Dec. 6, according to Montour Falls Village Mayor John KIng.
The Montour Falls pharmacy is owned by Henderson's Drug Store, Inc.  The company operates pharmacies in Elmira, Penn Yan, Hammondsport, Geneva, Naples, Lima, and Seneca Falls.  Henderson's also operated a location in Watkins Glen, which closed earlier this year.
"It's a big impact to the village," said King.  "It's always been successful."
King said he is still gathering information and hasn't spoken with Henderson's President, Larry Jepsen.  Jepsen has not returned phone calls from The REVIEW&EXPRESS on Thursday.
King said he is concerned with how this will impact Montour Falls.  He added that while this is a private transaction, he doesn't want an empty storefront on Main Street in the village.  He added he has spoken with Schuyler County Partnership for Economic Development on anything that can be done after the store closes.

"It's certainly a loss for the village, but an opportunity perhaps for someone else," said Kelsey Jones, executive director of SCOPED.  He added they have already sent out information to potential businesses.  Jones said a business contacted SCOPED several months ago looking to expand into Schuyler County.
