Montour Falls village board 01/19/10

Meeting:  The Montour Falls village board met Tuesday, Jan. 19 for one hour.
Attendance:  Mayor Donna Kelley and trustee Phil Smith were absent.
Action:  None.
Discussion without action:  The board held a public hearing on the new zoning and subdivision regulations that no one attended.  Clerk Suzanne Casselberry said because two board members were absent, no decision was made on the approving the zoning or not.  She said the remaining members did not want to make a decision without the full board.  The board also held off on adopting the comprehensive plan.  Casselberry added the town of Montour has already adopted both the new zoning and comprehensive plan.
• The board did agree that the village and Odessa would not be proceeding to seek a highway superintendent as a joint venture,
• Tom Carson, cemetery commissioner, had proposed a vault be built at the Montour Cemetery.  Casselberry explained during the winter when burials cannot be done, bodies are stored at a vault in Watkins Glen.  If the vault was built in Montour Falls, storage could be done there.
• The board talked about  residents needing to do snow and ice removal of sidewalks.  Casselberry explained removal needs to be done within 48 hours of snowfall.
• Bruce Nelson, developer, asked the board about putting signage up for a visitor’s center.  Casselberry said Nelson plans on including a visitor’s center in the coffee house that is a planned part of the Montour House project.  Nelson will talk to the code enforcement officer about what needs to be done.
Bids/purchases over $1,000:  The board approved buying new energy efficient light fixtures for the village hall for $1,000.
Appointments/resignations:  None.
Upcoming meetings:  The next regular board meeting will be Monday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m.  The meeting will start with representatives from Larson Design present.
