Montour Falls village board 1/3/12

Meeting:  The Montour Falls village board met Tuesday, Jan. 3, for one hour and 10 minutes.
Attendance:  Phil Smith was the only board member absent.  There were no members of the public in the audience.
Action:  The board approved the agreement for a bus shelter on West Main Street.  Mayor John King pointed out that the shelter had already been installed.
Discussion without action:  The board talked about moving the day of the regular village board meetings.  King said that due to holidays in January and February, they would not always be able to meet on the first and third Mondays as usual.  He suggested moving the date to a Wednesday and try one meeting a month.  The board will look into when other village meetings are held and what works for board member Smith, who was absent.  The next village board meeting was moved to Wednesday, Jan. 18, because the third Monday of the month is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
    • Board member Ellen Mathers said she talked with Finger Lakes Website Services as an alternate host/designer for the village website.  She asked the board to fill out a questionnaire about what they want to see on the site.  King said he wants it to focus on drawing tourists and visitors to  Montour Falls.
    • Board member Jim Ryan asked if the village could purchase the equipment to handle electronic bill payments.  King said the board has talked about taking debit or credit card payments in the past.
    • Ryan also asked about the policy for clearing snow from sidewalks.  Superintendent of Public Works Dean Hillyard said if a resident does not shovel snow, they get a reminder delivered to the residence.  If the village ends up doing it, the resident is billed.
    • Hillyard reported that 2011 was a good year and that he has enjoyed working with the village.
    • King said the village board needs to work on the marina rates so contracts can be sent out.
Upcoming meetings:  The next village board meeting is Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.
