Montour Falls village board 1/4/11

Meeting:  The Montour Falls village board met Tuesday, Jan. 4, for two hours and 10 minutes.
Attendance:  Phil Smith was the only board member absent.  There were two members of the public in the audience.
Action:  Clerk Suzanne Casselberry said the board approved spending around $12,500 on repairs to a village ladder truck.  The fire department vehicle was damaged in August and was sent for repairs.  The village board heard at a previous meeting that one of the truck’s wheel axles was also damaged, but the insurance would not cover this.  Casselberry said the board approved getting the ladder fixed and inspected first before deciding what to do about the axle.
• The board approved ceiling repairs in the second story of the village building.  That space will be used to hold plays this summer.
• The board authorized repairs to some of the pilings at the village marina.
Discussion without action:  The board heard concerns about firefighters not being able to hear alarm systems in some apartments.
• Trustee John King reported he is still working on updating and improving the village’s Web site.
• Tree removal started the first week in January.
• Casselberry said the library project through the Main Street grant program is almost complete.
Upcoming meetings:  The next regular board meeting is Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.  It was moved due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day being on Monday, Jan. 17.
