WATKINS GLEN--Following flooding caused by a malfunctioning valve, the Watkins Glen Central School District will be replacing the high school gymnasium floor. Insurance will cover the $149,300 repair cost. Superintendent Tom Phillips said the flood damage was discovered Oct. 11 and the work would begin on it this week.

"The flooding occurred Oct. 11 around 6:30 p.m. when a flush valve [...] in the boys locker room failed," Phillips said.
The money will go to replace only the damaged high school gym floor, and Phillips added no other areas within the school were damaged during the incident.
"The entire main gym floor will be replaced to the folding door," Phillips said. "The elementary gym floor was not impacted."
With repairs beginning this week, the work on the new floor is expected to be completed by early December according to Phillips.
"We just received the schedule for work to be done," Phillips said. The floor will be dismantled beginning [this] week with the new floor installation being complete Dec. 9."
