Newark eliminates Penn Yan in sectional game

NEWARK--The Penn Yan varsity football team lost to Newark in an away game Friday, Oct. 25 with a score of 30-14. The loss eliminates the Mustangs from the playoffs and effectively ends their season.
Penn Yan led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, but momentum stalled after an interception and losing a fumble. The Mustang defense did not allow any points off of either turnover, and the offense was able to score again on a halfback pass to Bradley Voigt, going up 14-0. Newark would steal momentum going into halftime on the ensuing kickoff, which was returned for a touchdown, ending the second quarter with a score of 14-8 in Penn Yan's favor.
Penn Yan received the ball to start the third quarter, but after a fumbled punt snap, Newark recovered the ball in the end zone to take the lead 16-14. The Mustangs threw interceptions on their next three offensive drives, while Newark would score on their next two. Newark ended the game victorious after scoring 30 unanswered points to make the final score 30-14.
