BARRINGTON—The Barrington board heard of a claim filed against the town, Pilkenton/Lancer v.  Barrington.  Clerk Joy Perry said the town is being sued by the family of a passenger involved in a car accident, July 4, on Haley Hill Road.  She added the accident involved the driver being drunk on a town road.  Supervisor Fred Wright and Highway Superintendent Steve Wheeler have already met with a New York Municipal Insurance Reciprocal representative. Read More ...

Route 54 bridge replacement is underway
BARRINGTON—If you drive on Route 54 between Penn Yan and Hammondsport, watch out for the replacement bridge going up in Barrington.  The New York State Department of Transportation is replacing the bridge over Eggleston Creek, one-tenth of a mile south of Camp Arey Road. Fran Haradon, project engineer, said work started with setup, Monday, Aug. 9.  The temporary bridge is expected to be completed within two to three weeks. He explained if work goes according to plan, the new bridge should be open by November. Haradon added that top course surfacing and new lane striping will be done next spring, 2011.  Right now, work crews are preparing to install a temporary bridge, west of and right next to the current bridge. Read More ...

BARRINGTON—Supervisor Fred Wright said he received a letter from the Penn Yan Fire Department in response to a request about a breakdown of the spending.  Wright said he requested information on costs and services provided to Barrington from the fire department.  The letter said information about the number of calls from the town should be gotten from the sheriff’s 911 Center.  The letter said that the tax rate per thousand for the town is $4.44. Read More ...

BARRINGTON—The Barrington town board agreed to mail a letter to the Penn Yan fire department requesting a detailed account of expenses over the last three years.  The letter asks for comparisons for budgeted versus actual expenses.  The letter also asks for a breakdown of fire calls to Barrington. Read More ...
Barrington town board 5/26/10
BARRINGTON—The Barrington board will wait to vote on highway law 284 until the state passes its budget.  Perry explained that law is basically the road work the town plans on doing that year.  The board may have an emergency meeting to vote on highway repairs if needed.  The Barrington planning board was also named the lead agency for the proposed sign amendments’ State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR).  A public hearing for the new law was held during the meeting.  Clerk Joy Perry said no one from the public commented. Read More ...
