Economic program focus is on Dundee PENN YAN—The new micro-enterprise program, available in Dundee, was the focus of the most recent Finger Lakes Economic Development Center (FLEDC) meeting. Empire Zone Coordinator Ryan Hallings outlined some of the projects during the meeting of the group’s board of directors Aug. 19. Hallings said there have already been eight inquiries and five applications are out. A disc jockey service and Windmill food vendor are some of the wide range of projects that are being considered. Applications may be made until Sept. 7 for the program which offers up to $3,000 on a 50 percent loan, 50 percent grant basis. Hallings said projects will be ranked by employment impact. The program grew out of the health improvement project begun nearly two years ago which includes the village of Dundee and the towns of Barrington and Starkey. Dundee Foods in Dundee was also on the agenda. Steve Griffin, executive director of FLEDC, said he is continuing to work with LiDestri Foods, owner of the company, as they grow closer to moving out of Dundee. Dundee village board 8/10/10 DUNDEE—The Dundee village board tabled a resolution regarding a fire department bylaw on changing the age limit from 18 to 16 to join. This will give the trustees time to study recommended changes. Fire Chief Dan Peterson said the department received a letter from Attorney Ed Brockman regarding the Fire Company and provisions for changing the age limit for members from 18 to 16. Peterson said most area fire departments no longer have junior fire programs. Read More ...

Dundee school board 8/12/10 DUNDEE—The dundee school board ppointed a student representative to the board of education. The student’s name will be announced next month. The board also discussed use of the playing fields with Athletic Director Charles Mochamer. Changes will be implemented this year and next year the football field will not be available due to capital project work. He said the goal is planning ahead. Junior/Senior High Principal Chris Arnold told the board students will be assigned lockers that will be theirs from the time they enter Junior High until graduation. Dundee moves football, soccer practice fields DUNDEE—Dundee Central School District Athletic Charles Mochamer presented a number of changes for practice fields on campus to the board of education during their Aug. 12 meeting. The practice fields for football and soccer have moved. Mochamer said at the end of fall last year there were discussions about moving the varsity football field to the back part of the campus, revamping the old soccer field for football. He said, “It’s a good idea to move all football practice to the back and establish a football field there for next year.” Football games will be on the main field this year. The fields are used extensively both for school activities and community youth sports programs. Youth soccer and football use the fields with up to 150 to 200 kids using the facilities on practice nights. Read More ...

The changing face of Dundee's main street DUNDEE—Over the last two years, the Dundee business district has slowly started to look a little different. New stores have opened up during the summer. The most recent is Wise Guys Pizza opening next to the Presbyterian church. As part of the Our Town RoCKS program, the Crocodile Mercantile also recently opened, giving a venue to to sell musical equipment and local crafts. Volunteers also helped put up planters with trees in them earlier this summer. Some existing business have made a few changes over the last few years. Most recent is work being done to the Dundee Family Fun Center. Just a few buildings down from there, the Sugarcreek gas station at the four corners became a Wilson Farms. After many years of shopping at Giles’ ShurFine, residents now make the same trip to Martini’s ShurFine. Water Street Pharmacy now sports vintage windows and doors, giving it the feel it had around 50 years ago. Read More ...
