Jerusalem looks for contamination source PENN YAN—Contamination in a section of Keuka Lake has presented a puzzle for some town of Jerusalem property owners, particularly to West Lake Road property owner Bonnie Curbeau. In 2009 she noticed seepage from a bank near a house she owned after the structure was damaged in a mudslide. The seepage was more than would have been expected and tests showed the presence of E-coli and Coliform. Curbeau contacted an attorney and the town to find a solution. It was thought that the town sewer system could be related to the problem because there are no septic systems in the area. Homes in the area are connected to the town’s sewer system. Branchport meeting covers drilling, protests BRANCHPORT—On Saturday, July 31, some 150 people stopped by Hunt Country Vineyards to view the documentary “All Fracked Up” and to hear speakers about Marcellus Shale drilling. The “Marcellus Shale Summit” was organized by Jeff and Jodi Andrysick, who filmed the satirical documentary, “All Fracked Up,” shown five times Saturday. The day also featured guest speakers Spike Jones, Joseph Heath and Dave Walczak. Jodi explained the two organized the summit, “to get people to show up en mass so politicians can see we don’t want hydrofracking here.” The first speaker was Jones. He held a Nonviolent Civil Disobedience Toolbox Workshop. Jodi explained he was part of the nonviolent protesting that stopped a nuclear waste dump from coming to Allegany County 20 years ago. Jerusalem town board 7/21/10 JERUSALEM—The Jerusalem town board received the budget for sewer and water from the village of Penn Yan. If the rates have been increased, the town can raise rates. In prior years the town had to wait six months to increase rates when necessary. The board also removed references about acceptance of bank letters confirming liability coverage for members of the Mennonite community who do work for the town. The town has learned members of the Mennonite community must have liability insurance. Read More ...

Jerusalem town board 5/19/10 JERUSALEM—Several property owners from East Bluff Drive visited the Jerusalem town board. They had earlier requested the board begin the budgeting process in May. Supervisor Daryl Jones said the process begins in June with review of the current budget in July and August. He said the town’s financial advisor said six months history is needed to determine elements of the budget. Workshops will be scheduled in September and October. Read More ...

Jerusalem town board 04/21/10 JERUSALEM—Following a public hearing, the Jerusalem town board approved changes to the town zoning ordinance regarding the duration of building permits, when permits may be issued and correcting a reference to the Executive Law. Work must commence within six months following the date of issuance of a permit and expire 12 months after the issuance date. The board also scheduled a public hearing on the steep slopes law at 7 p.m. on May 19. Read More ...
