ODESSA—The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team pulled out a win Friday, Jan. 8, in a hard fought game against Newark Valley, 60-51.
The Lady Cardinals held the lead through halftime, with Odessa trailing by six points. It wasn't until the third quarter that O-M started to pick apart Newark Valley's lead. Whitney Ayers made the basket that tied the two teams at 30-30. Rebecca Ayers then scored to put the Indians in the lead.
From there, Odessa fought to keep that ground in the last quarter. The Indians were in the lead by 11 points twice, but Newark Valley would score a couple of baskets and minimized the point gap.
O-M's highest scorer was Michelle Melanson with 18 points. Both Rebecca and Whitney Ayers scored 17 points. Rebecca had three three-point shots and Whitney had five three-point shots.
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team plays next at Notre Dame, Jan. 12.
