Odessa cancels football season

ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour Central School District canceled the rest of the 2014 season for the varsity football team. Coach Bob Lee explained Odessa was scheduled to play Groton, Friday, Oct. 3, but the game was canceled. Lee said the team only had 15 players, one short of the 16 player minimum. He added he couldn't comment on the season being canceled, but said, "I feel worst for the kids. We've been struggling, but we've been there."
Odessa opened the season with a forfeit loss, following a win due to Trumansburg forfeiting their season as well. The Indians managed to play the previous two games prior to Oct. 3.
The upcoming annual Bucket Game between the Odessa-Montour and Watkins Glen football teams will also be forfeited. The upcoming away game against Newfield and Watkins Glen were the only games left on Odessa-Montour's schedule.
