Odessa girls beat Candor, 56-42

ODESSA—The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team beat Candor, 56-42, in a home game, Friday, Jan. 29.
By the end of the game, the girls had a firm grasp on the lead.  However, what made the final quarter suspenseful was whether Rebecca Ayers would score a total of 21 points in the game to achieve her 1,000th career point.  With a minute left all she needed was two more points, having already secured 19 points.  Unfortunately, she was unable to make the one basket needed to get her 1,000th point this game.
Of Ayers' 19 points, four were from beyond the three-point line.  Michelle Melanson scored the next highest for Odessa with 11 points.  Whitney Ayers followed with 10 points.
The Indians were five for eight at the free throw line.  With this win, Odessa's record is now 10-4.
The girls basketball team plays next against Newfield, Friday, Jan. 5.
