ODESSA—The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team beat Waverly 50-35, in a home game, Friday, Dec. 3. Michelle Melanson led the team with 19 points and five steals. Taylor Carey had 10 points and eight rebounds and Allison Stamp contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds. Katie Ray was next with three points and five assists. Jessica Rhodes also had three points. "We controlled the game in the second half but could not put them away," said Coach Greg Gavich. "They're a young team that's definitely going to get better. We played solid defensively and fought through some foul trouble in the second half to keep them at bay." Gavich said the biggest lead was 39-22 in the third quarter. The closest Waverly came was within 10 points in the final quarter. "We definitely have room to improve," he said. "We were careless at times with the ball in the second half and 10-for-21 at the foul line." The girls play next at at Edison Tuesday, Dec. 7.
