Odessa-Montour performs 'The Wiz'

ODESSA—Grab Toto and come see Odessa-Montour High School’s performance of “The Wiz,” an urban take on the “The Wizard of Oz,” March 18 to 20.
The musical will be at 7:30 p.m. on all three days, plus a 2 p.m. performance Saturday, March 20. Tickets cost $6 for students and $8 for adults. Children under five can come for free.
“The Wiz” features nearly 40 students. Unlike the well known 1939 movie, “The Wiz” has three witches and the yellow brick road is a quartet of dancers. Dorothy will be played by freshman Morgan Stermer and senior Kayleigh Robinson.
As Dorothy makes her way to see the Wiz, she gains some friends. The Scarecrow will be played by Anthony Curren and Tyler Walrath. The Tin Man will be played by Derek Morgan. The Lion will be played by Bekki Lauper.
Maggie Lucero plays this version’s wicked witch, Evilene, and is still after her dead sister’s silver slippers, like in the book. Dorothy meets the good witch of the north, Addaperle (played by Kara Wood and Tyler Little), when her porch crashes in Munchkinland.  She later meets Glinda (played by Amanda Williams) who is the good witch of the south.
