Odessa plans ‘The Sound of Music’

ODESSA-MONTOUR—The hills of Odessa-Montour will come alive with “The Sound of Music” Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 13, 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. Some 30 students at O-M will present this year’s musical which includes a matinee Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. The kids have been practicing since January under the direction of Kim Laursen, and the songs, lines and choreography are nearly ready. The Odessa-Montour Fine Arts Boosters will be selling tickets for the show at the door of the O-M Fetter-Brown auditorium. Box Office Coordinator Sharon Stadelmaier said ticket prices remain the same as last year: $6 student, $7 senior citizens and $8 adult.
The musical focuses around the story of Maria von Trapp (Hayley Guild, Emma Raymond) and her relationship with the Austrian Captain von Trapp (Brennan Voorheis) unfolding at the very beginning of World War II. The Mother Abbess (Jenelle Bleiler, Dana Roberts) send Maria to be governess of the seven VonTrapp children: Leisl (Jordan Little), Friedrich (Rhys Stermer), Louisa(Grace Vondracek), Kurt (Jared Rumsey), Birgitte (Maria Scata), Marta (Jocelyn Davis) and Gretl (Jayla Davis). Max Detweiller (Logan Barrett) and Baroness Elsa Schraeder (Haillie Searles) round out the main characters of the cast.
The O-M Art club under the direction of Art teacher Karen Gunning have painted the sets built by Dan Rounds, Chris Barrett and Les Laursen. Beth Vann has accompanied the group for many rehearsals, and Tracy Gavich has worked hard rounding up enough costumes for everyone.
