Odessa proposes no tax levy increase

ODESSA—The Odessa village board is proposing no tax levy increase, and will have voted on the budget, Tuesday, April 26.
Clerk Kristi Pierce explained the proposed tax levy this year is $9.07 per 1,000, which is the same as last year.  She also said the total proposed budget for 2010-11 is $611,978.14.
Pierce said there wasn’t any huge change in the budget this year.  She added that the new assessments for the town of Catharine would probably affect next year’s budget though.
Mayor Keith Pierce said in six years the tax levy has only increased once, and that was a one percent rise.  He explained that last year, the board came in $4,600 under budget and was able to put some money away.  He added the board is good at working together to come within its means and not drop services.
