Odessa swimmers beat Southern Cayuga

ODESSA—The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team topped Southern Cayuga, 49-45, Thursday, Jan. 23.
The 200 medley relay team (James Terry, Anthony Humphries, Chris Husted, and Tyler Goossen) claimed first with a time of 1:58.38. Billy Tague won first in the 200 free (2:19.36) and the 500 free (6:11.30). Husted also claimed the 50 free (22.21) and the 100 free (49.43). Anthony Humphries won the 200 IM (2:27.47, a personal record).

The 200 free relay team of Goossen, Charles Sidle, Tague, and Husted took second with 1:43.83. The 400 free relay team of Sidle, Alec Betts, Tague, and Goossen also won second (4:05.70). Other second place wins included: Sidle in the 50 free (27.74) and 100 fly (1:17.32, a personal record); Goossen in the 200 free (2:23.06); Terry in the 100 back (1:13.82, a personal record); and Humphries in the 100 breast (1:12.52). "We swam a great meet tonight and got our fourth win of the season, avenging a loss against Southern Cayuga from earlier in the season," said Coach Terri Brace. "We lead throughout the meet, and had a 16 point lead after the 500 free, but I knew Southern Cayuga was going to come on strong in the last part of the meet.”

"Thankfully we had built enough of a lead that, despite them taking first in the final four events, we were able to secure the win. I told the team not to get too comfortable with our lead, and they continued to fight hard through the meet. Everyone swam really well and I'm very proud of them all."
