Odessa track claims small schools crown

ODESSA—The Odessa-Montour boys and girls track teams claimed the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Small Schools Championships, May 3. The girls team also placed first in Odessa’s Legends of the Night small schools division, Friday, May 6.
At Legends of the Night, the girls 400 meter relay team (Ashley Bryington, Erin Terry, Michelle Melanson and Alyssa Blieler) placed second with 52.88. The 1600 meter relay team (Bryington, Melanson, Terry, and Malissa Richards) won third with 4:32.55.
Taylor Carey won the top spot in the shot put with 31’00.50”. Melanson took third in the 200 meter dash with 27.86, third in the 400 meter hurdles with 1:12.26, and second in the triple jump with 32’07.00”. Terry won second in the 800 meter run with 2:36.02 and fourth in the long jump with 14’08.50”.
Bryington won fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with 17.89. Rebecca Zafonte placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with 13.53. Maia Rumsey took fifth in the 400 meter dash with 1:07.46. Brittany VanAmburg won fifth in the pole vault with 7’00.00”.
The Odessa boys team placed fifth in Legends of the Night for small schools. The 1600 meter relay team (Joe Markley, Martin Eccelston, James Williams, and Morgan Shutter) won first with 3:35.84.
Eccelston placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with 58.64. Markley took second in the 800 meter run with 1:59.72. Dakota Simpson won fifth in the discus with 119’05.50”.
To claim the IAC championship win, the track teams beat Candor and Edison in a meet.
