Odessa track wins division championships

ODESSA—The Odessa-Montour boys and girls varsity track teams took the Interscholastic Athletic Conference small schools division titles by beating Newfield, Monday, May 3.
The boys beat Newfield, 66-65. Coach Skip Strobel said this was the second year in a row the boys won the division title.
Martin Eccleston took first in the 400 hurdles with 59.5 (a personal best), and third in the 110 hurdles. Eccleston was also on the 4x800 relay team with Phil Smith, Sam Capozzi, and Joe Markley that took second place.
Markley took second in the 1600 meter, in the 800 meter, and in the high jump. Dakota Smith took second place in both the shot put and discus. Smith also placed second in the triple jump. Morgan Shutter secured second plan in the 200 meter and Capozzi had second in the 3200 meter. The 4x400 relay team of Smith, Williams, Shutter, and Eccleston also had second.
The girls beat Newfield, 72-60. Michelle Melanson led the Indians with four first places, in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, and the 4x400. The 4x400 relay team was made up of Melanson, Erin Terry, Ashley Bryington, and Beth Smith. The 4x100 relay team (Rebecca Zafonte, Bryington, Bekki Lauper and Alyssa Bleiler) took first place.
Maggie Lucero was also first in the discus. Terry took first in the 800 meter.
Coach Burton Brewster said the second and third placers also really helped secure the IAC championship title for the girls.
