Odessa, Watkins compete in IAC Championship

DRYDEN—Both Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour competed in the IAC Championship in Dryden, May 20 and 21.
O-M's girls finished ninth, out of 19 schools, with 17.5 points.  Watkins girls finished 12th, with 11 points.  The O-M boys also took ninth, with 18 points, and Watkins boys had zero points.  Trumansburg took the top spots for both boys and girls.
For Odessa girls, the 4x100 relay team (Rebecca Zafonte, Ashley Bryington, Bekki Lauper, and Michelle Melanson) took third with 51.66, a school record.  Bryington also won third in the 400 hurdles with 1:09.54.  Melanson also placed sixth in the 200 meter, with 27.75.
Joe Markley won third place in the 800 meter for O-M boys, with 2:00.19, a school record.  Dakota Simpson took fifth in the discus, with 121' 5''.  The 4x400 relay team (Martin Eccleston, Markley, Phil Smith, and Morgan Shutter) took fifth with 3:35.75, breaking the school record.  Eccleston also placed seventh in the 400 hurdles, with 59.47.
For Watkins girls, Shelby Olafson took second in the high jump, with 5' 2''.  Michaela Olafson won sixth in the triple jump, with 32' 7.75'', a personal best.  She also placed fifth in the high jump, with 4' 8''.  For the boys, the 4x400 relay team (Andrew Conklin, Charlie Bascom, Shane Smith, and Eric Mack), placed seventh.
