Odessa's Luke Smith takes second in weight class

WATKINS GLEN—While Odessa only placed 21 out of 22 schools at the Mike Watson Memorial Tournament in Watkins Glen, Saturday, Jan. 9, O-M's Luke Smith took second place in the 160 weight class.
The event lasted Friday afternoon and all day Saturday.  Over the course of the two days, wrestlers competed by school and weight class.  Of the 22 schools there, Penn Yan took 15th place over all, O-M had 21st place, and Watkins Glen had 22nd.  Smith's weight class win was Odessa's only win of that kind.  Smith lost to Wyatt Vosburgh of Elmira for first place.  Watkins' wrestlers did not place in any of the weight classes.
Penn Yan had three weight class placers.  The Mustangs' final wrestler to place during the tournament was Bobby Galusha.  He took third place in the 285 weight class.  Galusha lost to Ryan Jumpp of Vestal, who went on to take first place in that weight class.  John Martisch took fifth place in the 152 weight class earlier in the day.  He beat out his Horseheads opponent to do so.  Collin Phillips was the next Mustang to place, in the 171 weight class, also in fifth place.  His opponent  in the match to decide fifth and sixth place was Vaughn Collins of Rush Henrieta.  Penn Yan Coach Ted Cox said for the schools in attendance at the tournament, Penn Yan did pretty well.
The top three schools ended up being, Elmira in third place, Rush Henrieta in second, and Lansing in first.
