Pairing a great wine makes the meal

TRI-COUNTY AREA—When people think of a traditional Thanksgiving meal, it often times includes the turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pies for dessert, and a great glass of wine!
“The best recommendation for a holiday dinner, with such a wide variety of possible foods, is to lay out a variety of wines,” said Thomas Pellechia, wine columnist for The Observer and REVIEW&EXPRESS.
“You want wines that can handle a variety of flavors at one sitting,” he said.  The whites he suggests to fill that bill are Gewürztraminer and Riesling to pair with turkey.  Pellechia also suggests Chardonnay, Seyval, and sparkling wine when it comes to white wines in general.
For red wines, Pellechia recommends Cabernet Franc, Lemberger, Pinot Noir, and any version of Nouveau locally produced.
During the Christmas season, Pellechia said he suggests Riesling and Pinot Noir for finger foods and sparkling wine for festive parties.  For dessert, Pellechia recommended Late Harvest wines, Ice Wines, and port styles wines.
