Penn Yan advances with 28-8 victory

GENEVA--The Penn Yan varsity football team won in the first round of sectionals 28-8 away at Geneva Friday, Oct. 23. They will take a 5-3 record into the next round of sectionals and play Livonia (7-1).
Geneva received the opening kickoff, but were stopped by the Mustangs. Penn Yan scored first to take an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. A defensive struggle ensued in the second quarter, but Penn Yan scored with time expiring in the half to take a 16-0 lead into halftime.
Penn Yan received the ball after halftime. The Panthers failed to score throughout the third quarter.
Meanwhile Penn Yan continued the blowout in the second half finishing the game with a 28-8 victory.
Tanner Irwin rushed for 76 yards and 143 yards through the air for four touchdowns. Sean Emerson had 72 yards receiving and one touchdown. Sean Stape had 38 yards receiving and a touchdown. Chris Rossi recorded a touchdown reception. Sam Voak also had a touchdown reception. Dylan Stape added 77 yards rushing.
Austin Fingar had eight tackles.
