PENN YAN—In the first game of the girls varsity lacrosse season, Penn Yan beat Honeoye Falls, 7-6, Saturday, March 27.
The two teams were tied at halftime, 4-4. The Mustangs then scored three more goals in the second half, with 14:16, 11:48, and 10:03 left on the clock. Honeoye fought back to score twice more, but could not get one more goal to tie the game before time was up.
Sam Sisson led the Mustangs in goals, with four. She also had two assists. Brooke Wickham had two goals. MeredythMcMichael was next with one goal and three assists. Meg Hopkins, goalie, had 10 saves. Three were in the first half and seven were in the second half.
Coach Pat Queener said beating Honeoye Falls has been a goal for the team a while now. She explained many of the players are seniors and this win was something they had been working towards.
"They're so very happy," she said.
The girls lacrosse team plays next against Ithaca, April 1, at 5:30 p.m.
