PITTSFORD-Penn Yan lost to Silver Creek in the Class C Western Regional Championship, State Quarterfinal game, Saturday, June 4. The final score was 15-8. Silver Creek was the Section 6 Class C champion, while Penn Yan was the Section 5 Class C winner. This was the first Class C western regional championship not won by a Section 5 team. Penn Yan had a 4-3 lead early on, but lost it by the second quarter. Silver Creek gained the advantage with several rounds of consecutive scoring. Adam Stork and Dylan Yonts both led with two goals and two assists each. Ryan Maciejewski also scored two goals. Rion Davison and JJ Voigt scored one goal each. In the goal, Brandon Maciejewski had four saves. Penn Yan lost the face-offs for the ball, 18-25. With this final game, the Mustangs' record is 16-4. The team loses four seniors: Anthony Luppino, Stork, Voigt, and Baird Wilber. However, there are 11 juniors stepping up the take the reigns next season. For the season, Yonts leads the team in scoring with 53 goals. Luppino had 22, while Ryan Maciejewski had 31 goals. Davison scored 33 goals. Voigt had 28 goals. Freshman attackman Bradley Voigt scored 25 goals this year and freshman goalie, Brandon Maciejewski, made 147 saves. Silver Creek will compete in the state semifinal games for each class June 8 at St. John Fisher College. The west champions will face the east champions. Penn Yan won the Class C State Championship in 2001 and have been state semi finalists thirteen times over the years. To buy photos from the slide show click here.
