Mustangs fall to 0-2 on season

PENN YAN--The Penn Yan varsity football team suffered a loss in their home opener, falling 39-22 to East Rochester/Gananda.
The Mustangs and Bombers each exchanged a three-and-out on their opening drives, resorting to punts on fourth down. After forcing East Rochester to punt on their second possession, the Mustangs picked up their first first-down of the game after being pinned on their own four yard line. Yet after driving to their own 48 yard line, they were stopped short on fourth and four, turning the ball over on downs. East Rochester scored the first touchdown of the game on a four-yard run, making the score 7-0.
The Mustangs had their next drive stall after a big sack and an illegal substitution penalty, forcing them to punt. East Rochester began their next drive on the Penn Yan 30, picking up their second touchdown of the game with a 29-yard touchdown pass on fourth and nine, making the score 14-0. East Rochester would go on to win the game with a final score of 39-22.
The Mustangs' next game is an away game Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. against Waterloo.
