Penn Yan names new police chief

PENN YAN—Penn Yan village trustees named a new police chief May 7 during a special meeting of the village board which included an executive session led to the announcement.
Sergeant Mark Hulse was provisionally named police chief to replace current chief Gene Mitchell, effective July 1. Mitchell will retire June 30.  Hulse must pass the chief test which will be given in March 2010.
Hulse has worked for the Pen Yan police department since 1994; during the past four years as Sergeant. Prior to joining the village police department, Hulse worked for the Yates County Sheriff’s Department.
