Penn Yan school board 01/27/10

Meeting: Penn Yan Central School District board of education met for approximately 40 minutes on Jan. 27, followed by an executive session to discuss personnel matters lasting approximately 45 minutes.
Attendance: Board members Nancy Scher and Anita Maroscher were excused. No members of the public were in the audience.
Action: Accepted a donation from the Allstate foundation for the Driver Education Program.
• Formally accepted the report of examination from the office of state comptroller.
• Accepted the response (Corrective Actions) to the office of the state comptroller Follow-up review audit for the period of August 2006 to August 2009.
• Accepted the Committee on Special Education and Preschool special education annual report for 2008-09 as presented by  Director of Student Services Richard Shaver. Shaver told the board one student who graduated in June earned a Regents diploma with honors. He also told the board Rochester businessman Tom Galisano visited the Diversity, Responsibility, Inclusion, Vision and Experiential learning (D.R.I.V.E.) program at Keuka College. The college is looking into establishing housing for adult students in the program which is for developmentally delayed special education students ages 18 to 21.
Discussion without action: Heard an update on the state comptrollers report, five year budget analysis and an overview of revenue from Assistant Superintendent for Business Doug Tomandl.
Bids/purchases over $1,000: Approved a contract with Industrial Appraisal Company of Pittsburgh, Pa to perform Capital Asset and inventory listing in the amount $7,855.
Appointments/resignations: Accepted the resignation of English teacher Sharon Stamp for the purpose of retirement, effective June 30. Stamp began at PYCSD in September 1971.
Upcoming meetings: Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria.
