Penn Yan school board 1/11/11

Meeting: The Penn Yan Central School District board of education met for approximately one hour on Wednesday, Jan. 11. The meeting was followed by an executive session to discuss personnel matters lasting approximately one and three-quarter hours.
Attendance: Board  member Nancy Scher was excused. Five members of the public were in the audience.
Action: Accepted a donation of $5,000 from Melissa Lamphier for the Dale and Dorie Pielow Memorial Award.
• Accepted a donation of $2,000 from the class of 2011 to the Yearbook Club.
• Approved three new and one revised district policies.
Discussion without action: Heard an update on the DRIVE Program from Student Support Services Director Richard Shaver.
• Assistant Superintendent for Business Douglas Tomandl presented a five year budget review. Tomandl also gave the board an update on the status of corrective action plans for the  External Audit report.
• Howard Dennis, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Staff Development, presented an update on the district Professional Development plan.  
Appointments/resignations: Accepted the resignation of elementary school Principal Ed Bronson, effective June 30 for the purpose of retirement.
• Accepted the resignation of Cook Manager JoAnn Burg, effective March 25, 2011. Burg began at PYCSD in 1975.
• Approved appointment of teacher Kelly Dallos to the position of Teacher on Special Assignment for Penn Yan Academy’s Dean of Students/District-Wide Attendance Officer, effective Jan. 31 through June 30.
• Teacher on Special Assignment/Literacy Coach Linda Snyder for the purpose of retirement, effective June 30. Snyder began at PYCSD in 1992.
• Accepted the resignation of Kathleen A. Orr, Teaching Assistant, effective June 30. Orr began at PYCSD in 1990.
Upcoming meetings: Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria.
