Penn Yan school board 11/18/09Meeting: Penn Yan Central School District board of education met for approximately 20 minutes, Nov. 18.Attendance: Board members Anita Maroscher and James Multer Jr. were absent. Action: Approved revisions to district policy for budget transfers and evaluation of the instructional program and purposes of instructional materials. Also approved a new policy on objection to instructional materials. Later in the week Superintendent of Schools Ann Orman said district librarians asked if the board could look at the possibility of a separate procedure that could be used in the case there is objection to certain instructional materials. Whether the objection came from a parent or teacher, the new policy would allow librarians to offer alternatives to the materials used. Orman said the issue has not come up very often in the district. • Approved a Team of One for Boys & Girls Indoor Track with Marcus Whitman. • Accepted several donations including $1,246 worth of books for the elementary school library from the book fair sponsored by the elementary school Parent Teacher Group. Also accepted $1,000 from middle school students for Helping us Build Better Assets (HUBBA) for “Back to Basics” T-shirts. Discussion without action: Heard a report from LeChase Construction Manager Jim Higgins on progress of the capital project at Penn Yan Academy. Upcoming meetings: Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria. |
