Penn Yan will celebrate StarShine Dec. 1

PENN YAN--The village of Penn Yan will celebrate the holiday season with StarShine, Friday, Dec. 1. Now in its 33rd year, the celebration takes place in various locations around the downtown area. The street will close at 3:30 p.m., and events run from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
One of the highlights of the evening includes the crowning of Miss Penn Yan for the upcoming year. The ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m., for profiles of all the candidates see page 3.
Mrs. Claus will be at the Finger Lakes Realty building on Main Street from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Santa will arrive at 6:30 p.m. at the downtown mini-park.
Habitat for Humanity is holding a Pancake Day from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Michael's dining hall in memory of former Yates County Chamber President Mike Linehan. An adult meal is $7.
In addition to the timed events, there are a number of activities that continue throughout the evening. There will be many vendors set up along Main Street and many businesses will have extended hours for the celebration.
The fire department will once again host a number of fun events for children, including an elf school and face painting. Kids crafts and books will be presented by the Rotary Club at Community Bank.
Live performances will entertain on the stage, and games including a bean bag toss, sack race and musical chairs will be available for attendees.
Another holiday favorite, horse drawn wagon rides, will also run on East Main Street.
