Penn Yan will vote on $3M project

PENN YAN--The Penn Yan Central School District will be putting a $3,165,950 capital project up for a referendum vote Dec. 7. Brian Cieslinski of SEI Design Group presented the Penn Yan school board with a building-by-building breakdown of the costs for each individual project that will be conducted during the proposed project.
Cieslinski said the elementary school will require $938,975 in work during the capital project. The projects he outlined included fixing the floor underlay to treat floor cracks, add key fob entries, add ventilation to the roof to treat an elevator smell, include HVAC upgrades at the library, repoint some masonry and replace slate window sills on the exterior of the building.
He said the middle school will require the most work, totaling $1,323,535. He said the projects to be addressed include the middle school roof, a high priority project that will cost $393,300. Some of the other projects include replacing flooring in the auditorium and lower level corridor entry stair area, asbestos abatement in the attic spaces, added sound system to the auditorium, fiber connection, replacement of air conditioning units, exterior work, repairing of falling catch basins and added lighting in the parking lot.
Penn Yan Academy may see only $270,250 in work, which includes upgraded security cameras, added key fob entries, air flow and air conditioning upgrades and added lighting.
Cieslinski said the whole project should cost $2,532,760, but added an incidental allowance of $633,190 should put the project at just more than $3 million.
