Pension program gets questions

PENN YAN—Questions about the fire department Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) continue to be put before the Penn Yan Village board. During the board meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18, questions about administration of the program were asked during the public comment portion of the meeting. Firefighters who meet requirements for service receive a pension at the age of 65. The record keeping system used by the Penn Yan fire department has been one of the largest issues raised to date.
    In other business:
    • A local law regarding disruption of funeral events has been sent to village attorney Ed Brockman for review.
    • A public hearing on proposed improvements to Red Jacket Park was held during the meeting.
    • The planning board is continuing work on changes to site plan review.
    • Carrie Miller and Kristen Kern were approved as members of Hydrant Hose Company.
    • Trustees approved a change of location for StarShine. This year the event will be at the Yates County courthouse lawn, Penn Yan Baptist Church and Penn Yan Library. Main Street could not be closed for the event this year because of detours related to the closing of the Liberty Street bridge.
The next meeting of the Penn Yan village board will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The meeting will be in the village office building on Elm Street.
