Public hearings fill Jerusalem meeting

    BRANCHPORT—Four public hearings led the agenda for the meeting of the Jerusalem town board on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
    An ongoing issue with an unsafe structure at 2958 Rt. 54A was one of the four. The town has declared the site as unsafe. Jerusalem has been working with the owner since 2009. The owner requested more time. Town code contains detail of the process.
    In other business: The town budget for 2012 was approved following a public hearing. There were no comments from the public on the document. The amount approved is $1,545,224.
    • A public hearing on proposed wind farms was held open until November to allow residents of the town of Italy to make comments.  A site near the border of Jerusalem and Italy is under consideration for a wind farm.
    • The fourth public hearing on a consolidated water district, sewer district and extensions did not result in any public comment.
    • The zoning review and 54A subcommittee had a second public meeting to gain input. The area in question is from Indian Pines to Branchport.
    • A public hearing on a proposed tax exemption for Cold War veterans will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
    • The Yates County Marcellus Shale  and the town hydrofracking impact study groups continue to meet. A public hearing to gain comments on proposed amendments to local zoning is scheduled at 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 16.
    • A public information meeting on a proposed amendment to town zoning law regarding explicitly prohibited land uses in the town will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The meeting will be at the Branchport/Keuka Park firehouse on Rt. 54A.
    The next meeting of the Jerusalem town board will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
