Reading reviews gas transfer station plans

READING—At the town of Reading Planning Board meeting Wednesday, Jan. 19, Chairperson Gordon Wright led a discussion concerning the process that  Finger Lakes LPG Storage, LLC, is currently undergoing with regard to the proposed $40 million underground gas storage facility in Schuyler County.
Finger Lakes LPG Storage, LLC, a subsidiary of Inergy, L.P., headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., is awaiting the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to complete a list of issues and concerns regarding the impact the project would have on the area.
The DEC has stated that the proposed project may result in an adverse environmental impact sufficient to require preparation of a site and project specific report. The DEC is accepting comments from the public up until Jan. 31.

After the close of the public comment period, the DEC will issue a final report to Finger Lakes LPG Storage. The company must then prepare an environmental impact statement answering all the concerns listed.
After reviewing the DEC draft list, Judi Richards, board member, commented that the board had already addressed these issues in the year the board has been working on the project.
Representing Finger Lakes LPG Storage at the meeting, Kevin Bernstein, lawyer with Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, said he hoped the company would have the final report by the middle of February, with acceptance of the environmental impact statement and permits issued by spring. Construction could then begin and the facility would be operational by fall of this year.
The next regular meeting for the Reading planning board is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
